30/05/2023

A tourist recently visited the Tianxing Cave Scenic Area in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, and witnessed a young child breaking off a stalactite with a brick and taking it away, according to Chinese media sources. The Tianxing Cave Scenic Area officials stated that such behavior is not permitted and that the incident would be reported to the appropriate authorities.

According to Chinese media, the visitor was part of a tour group that visited the Tianxing Cave in the Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area on May 27th. Towards the end of the tour, they heard the sound of rocks being struck. They initially assumed it was construction sounds. When they arrived at the Tianxing Cave’s outlet, they noticed a young child carrying a brick and breaking off a stalactite from the cave wall. He then took what he desired and placed it in his pocket. Because the boy’s parents were not around, the tourist stepped in, stopping the boy’s acts and filming a video as evidence.

The traveller noticed the youngster’s mother resting on a nearby seat at the cave entrance after following the boy out of the cave. The traveller presented the mother the video as proof and alerted her of her child’s inappropriate behaviour. The visitor further said that the boy’s mother was aware of the scenario and mentioned that the boy liked it so much that they wanted to take it with them.

The staff stated that stalactites are a natural landscape and should not be damaged. They received visitor reports and have watched the video online. They will conduct an investigation and hold those involved accountable. The picturesque area has already reported the incident to authorities, and security footage will be retrieved for further investigation.
