Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the government has launched the MySejahtera mobile app to track confirmed cases, and people must use MySejahtera to check in before entering buildings or stores.
However, as Malaysia will enter the transitional stage of the local epidemic, and the management of MySejahtera personal data has also caused controversy recently, more and more people are calling on the government to stop using the MySejahtera APP.
Among them, the chairman of the Malaysian Medical Association, Dr. Koh Kar Chai, also issued a statement stating that due to the high infection rate of the new crown pneumonia in the community, the function of MySejahtera used to track confirmed patients is no longer as effective as the previous epidemic ravaged our country. It is time for the government considers discontinuing MySejahtera.
He said that MySejahtera may be outdated as a tracking function now because there are a large number of confirmed cases around the people, and the tracing of close contacts will not be widely adopted, so MySejahtera no longer has the expected effect.
It is worth mentioning that the MySejahtera risk status will not turn yellow any more if you become a casual contact (Kontak Kasual/Casual Contact). And if the close contacts are asymptomatic, there is no need for mandatory isolation. So MySejahtera’s contact tracing function really becomes less useful.
In any case, as the MySejahtera app has been widely adopted by the Malaysians, the Malaysian Medical Association also suggested that the app should retain the contact tracing function as it is not known when the next pandemic will emerge.
The MySejahtera app can be used as a personal health record, such as for initial attempts, to create an individual’s health record that can be consulted by healthcare providers when needed.
