If you lost your ID card, birth certificate or passport during the floods, you can get a replacement for free!

 

According to the news issued by the Minister of Home Affairs, Dato’ Seri Hansa Zainuddin, flood victims who lost their personal documents issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, such as their Damascus card, passport, and birth certificate during the floods, can get a free replacement. The National Registration Office and the Immigration Department will assist the flood victims in the process of obtaining new documents.

 

At this stage, the victims can focus on cleaning up their homes after the disaster and do not need to worry about the replacement of their personal documents.

 

Under normal circumstances, the first time a person loses his or her Damascus card, he or she will be fined RM 100 plus RM 10 for the processing fee of RM 110, the second time he or she loses his or her card, he or she will be fined RM 300 plus RM 10 for the processing fee of RM 310, and the third time or more, he or she will be fined RM 1010 plus RM 10 for the processing fee of RM 1000.

 

As for passports, people who apply for a replacement passport for the first time will be fined RM400, the second time RM700 and the third time RM1200.

 

In addition to the Ministry of Interior’s announcement of free replacement of personal documents, banks in China have announced that they will provide free replacement of bank cards, bank passbooks and cheque books for victims. Victims can contact their banks for more details.

 

For those who are facing difficulties in repaying their loans, they can also apply to banks for assistance such as deferment of loan repayment, reduction of monthly installment amount, and extension of loan term.
