Meteorological Department issues thunderstorm warning for North Malaysia as low-pressure system approaches the region!

20/12/2021

A low pressure system will move towards the northern part of the Straits of Malacca and thunderstorms may occur in North Malaysia!

According to the weather report issued by the Meteorological Department of Malaysia on the evening of December 20, the low pressure system is at 4.8 degrees north latitude and 93.7 degrees east longitude in the Andaman Sea and will be moving towards the east and will be close to the northern part of the Straits of Malacca.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts that the low pressure system has a low chance of causing a tropical cyclone. However, the low pressure system will cause thunderstorms and storm lines (Garis Badai) in several states of North Malaysia on December 21 and 22.

People in the areas concerned are urged to be more sensitive to weather changes and the Meteorological Department will continue to track changes in the weather and will issue weather warnings if necessary.

The continuous heavy rainfall on December 18 caused severe flooding in several states in the country, with Selangor being the worst hit. Many people criticized the Meteorological Department for its slow response, but in fact, it had already issued a weather alert several days ago.
