The Ministry of Public Works plans to completely phase out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG by the end of 2023.

According to a message from Deputy Minister of Public Works Dato’ Arthur Kullu in the Upper House of Parliament, the government plans to increase the use of RFID to 60 percent by 2022 and to completely phase out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG toll payments by 2023.

The deputy minister also noted that it is the Ministry of Public Works’ plan to phase out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG by 2023, although this will depend on the level of acceptance of RFID by road users.

The announcement comes on the heels of the Ministry of Public Works’ announcement that the North-South Road toll booths from Penang to Johor will support RFID-enabled toll payment from January 15, 2022, and will phase out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG toll payment. Each North-South Boulevard toll booth will provide at least one RFID-enabled lane.

The Ministry of Public Works plans to phase out the Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG toll payment measures have caused concern among road users, and the North-South Highway (PLUS) has said it will not phase out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG for now to reassure road users.

The so-called RFID payment toll means that road users in the vehicle headlights or windshield RFID stickers, in the toll booth when the system will read the RFID sticker information, and from the vehicle owner’s e-wallet deduct the toll. All the vehicle owner needs to do is slow down the speed of the vehicle.

If your vehicle has not been installed RFID Tag, you can choose to buy RFID Tag through Lazada, and then installed in the car headlights. The installation method is very simple, that is, open the RFID Tag sticker, and then paste in the car headlights can be. Then you need to bind on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet to activate your RFID Tag.

When you arrive at the toll booth, you simply identify the RFID-enabled lane and slow down to pass the toll booth. The system will automatically read the RFID Tag information and deduct the toll from your Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
