High-usage householders to pay more for electricity from 2024!

23/12/2023

Households with high electricity consumption will have to pay more from 2024.

According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, households in Peninsular Malaysia that consume between 601 and 1,500kWh of electricity will no longer be required to pay the ICPT surcharge, but will no longer be eligible for the ICPT surcharge rebate. The measure will be effective from January 1 to June 30, 2024 onwards.

This means that householders with monthly electricity bills ranging from RM220.36 to RM737.50 will have to pay an additional RM12 to RM32 per month from 2024 onwards, with the increase ranging from 4.2% to 6.0%.

For example, for a household that consumes 601kWh of electricity, the current tariff is RM220, and will increase to RM232 or RM12 after the government does not provide ICPT rebate.

Note! This adjustment will only affect households with electricity consumption of 601kWh or above. Households that consume up to 601kWh of electricity will not be affected and these households will continue to enjoy the 2 sen per kWh rebate. 85% of customers in Peninsular Malaysia are not affected and only about 1.2 million households are affected.
