Bank cards will be used to travel on the LRT and MRT in the future

good news! From now on, you can use your bank card to take the LRT and MRT.

According to information issued by Transport Minister Luk Siew Fook, the National Infrastructure Corporation (Prasarana) will start the design and development work of the “open payment system” in the Klang Valley area in March 2024. This process will take 11 months.

The government aims to have half of the gates at every station supporting the open payment system by February 2025. By then, people will be able to use credit cards or debit cards to pay when taking public transportation. At this stage, people can only use touch-and-go cards or tokens to pay fares when taking public transportation.

In addition, the 57 KTM stations in the Klang Valley are expected to complete the installation of open payment systems in the coming November. After that, people can use credit cards, debit cards, touch-and-go cards or Malay cards. Asia Railway Company’s software carries out QR code payment.

Highway toll stations have also gradually begun to implement an open payment system, allowing road users to pay tolls with bank cards. This measure is gradually being expanded to more toll stations.
