MALAYSIANS love their nasi lemak and can eat it any time of the day.
The traditional nasi lemak has evolved to include a variety of different proteins.
In Sungai Choh, Rawang, there’s an eatery that serves nasi lemak with generous side dishes.
Dapur Che’gu, previously known as Nasi Lemak Malam Jumaat, is popular for its large servings of chicken and seafood.
Nestled at a corner of a row of shop lots, the shop is operated by Danial Muzaffar and his parents
Danial said, “We opened in November 2021 and since then, we have seen a tremendous influx of customers.”
The bestseller is the nasi lemak with a whole fried chicken, priced at RM35.
The butterflied chicken is served piping hot with a dusting of chilli powder.
Preparation of the chicken begins in the morning, with the chicken being marinated in flour, chilli powder, and spices.“
Just before we start operating each night, we give the chicken an extra coating of flour to ensure that irresistible crispiness,” said Danial.
Throughout the shop, customers can be seen enjoying grilled squid (sotong bakar) and grilled tiger prawns.
The price of the squid can vary depending on the size and weight but it’s typically around RM50.
Tiger prawns are priced at RM35 per set of six.
Food typically takes around 15 to 20 minutes to be served, based on the side dishes chosen.
