The year 2022 is here! In this brand new January 2022, a number of new policies and events will be implemented, take a look.
1. Public Holidays
There will be 3 public holidays in January, which are not national public holidays, but only state holidays. January 1 is New Year’s Day holiday, January 14 is the birthday of the Supreme Ruler of Negeri Sembilan, and January 18 is the Grand Poinsettia holiday.
2. School Opening
Primary and secondary schools in Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor will open on January 9, while primary and secondary schools in other states and regions will open on January 10. Kindergarten classes may start on January 2 or 3.
3. Lunar New Year School Holiday
According to the Ministry of Education’s holiday schedule for the new school year 2022, schools in Group A states will have an additional Lunar New Year holiday on January 30 and January 31, and schools in Group B states will have an additional Lunar New Year holiday on January 31 and February 3.
According to the school holiday schedule issued by the Ministry of Education, schools in Group A will start on Thursday, February 3, and schools in Group B will start on Friday, February 4, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. If schools take an additional day off on February 3 or 4, this will create a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday.
If Group A states take an additional day off, then the Lunar New Year school holiday will run from January 28 to February 5, and Group B states can run from January 29 to February 6.
4. BKM Assistance is open for application
The BKM will be open for application from 1st January. Existing recipients do not need to apply again, as long as they are eligible, they will automatically receive the grant.
5. KTM Lunar New Year tickets on sale
Malayan Railway Corporation (KTMB) announced that tickets for the period from January 15 to June 30, 2022 will go on sale on January 5, 2022 at 12:15 a.m. The 2022 Lunar New Year falls during this period, so those who want to buy tickets should pay attention.
6. JPJ outlaws owners of overdue driver’s licenses and road taxes
Drivers must renew their licenses and road taxes by December 31. Any driver who is on the road with an overdue license and road tax from 2022 will be dealt with.
7. North-South Road supports RFID toll payment
The toll booths on the North-South Expressway from Penang to Johor will support RFID-based toll payment from January 15, 2022.
8. My50
The Ministry of Transport has launched the My50 monthly pass, which allows unlimited public transport rides for 30 days at RM50 per month.
9. Selangor abolishes paper-based parking fixation
The Selangor local government will abolish paper parking tickets from January 3, 2022 and replace them with electronic payment of parking fees. All car owners who park their cars in public parking spaces under the jurisdiction of Selangor Local Government will be required to pay through the Smart Selangor Parking APP.
10. Flour price increase
The price of 25kg flour will be increased from 2022 onwards, which will lead to an increase in the price of bread, rice flour, noodles, cookies and other food items. The current price of 25kg flour is RM47 to RM51, from 2022 it will be increased by RM5 and the latest price will be RM52 to RM56.
11. Coffee store beverage price increase
The prices of drinks in traditional coffee shops will be adjusted from January 1, 2022, with an average increase of 20 to 60 sen. The increase of drinks in coffee shops depends on the area, the increase of drinks in coffee shops in rural areas will be between 20 to 30 sen, while the increase of drinks in urban areas will be 40 to 60 sen.
12. Hong Leong Bank Transfer Card Swipe Limit
According to a notice issued by Hong Leong Bank, the daily retail swipe limit for transfer cards will be increased to a maximum of RM20,000 for Generic and Priority Banking users, effective January 1, 2022.
13. Maybank2u Classic website closed
The old Maybank2u website (Classic Maybank2u) will cease to be available in January 2022 and will be transferred to the new Maybank2u website. This means that from January 2022, users will only be able to use the new version of Maybank2u for their banking transactions. This measure applies to individual users, while Maybank2u Biz users are not affected.
14. Stock IDSS and PDT ban lifted
Single Day Short Sales (IDSS) and Private Day Trading (PDT) short sales will be reinstated as of January 1, 2022. The regulator will strengthen control measures to ensure stable and orderly stock trading. In addition to the current short sale restrictions, both IDSS and PDT short sales must be entered in accordance with the at-tick rule, and short sale orders will be executed based on the market’s current best or higher ask price. At the same time, PDT short sales are limited to specific approved stocks and must be subject to a debit agreement.
15. Stamp Duty Adjustment for Stock Transactions
The Ministry of Finance also announced that the stamp duty on stock transactions will be capped at RM1,000 and this measure will apply from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2026. All stock transactions made during this period will be subject to a 0.15% stamp duty, subject to a maximum cap of RM1,000.
16. Booster Vaccination
Remember to complete the booster vaccination by February next year or MySejahtera will become incomplete. 60 years old and above must complete the booster vaccination by February 2022 or they will be considered incomplete. For those who are 18 years of age or older who received the Coxin vaccine, you will also need to complete the booster shot by February 2022 or you will also be considered incomplete.
