Primary and Secondary school students can wear casual clothes to class!

31/12/2021

The Ministry of Education has released guidelines for January 2022. Students may continue to wear casual clothes to class, and students may wear neat and appropriate attire. Schools may not mandate students to wear school uniforms to class.

This measure by the Ministry of Education is intended to reduce the burden of living on low-income groups. After months of movement control orders and severe flooding, most people’s incomes have been greatly affected and their children’s uniforms may have been damaged during the flooding or may no longer fit.

In the Ministry of Education’s announcement, it was announced that pre-school, primary one, primary two, primary six, preparatory secondary, secondary four, secondary five, secondary five and pre-university classes will be allowed to return to school. As for Primary 3, 4, 5, Secondary 1, Secondary 2 and Secondary 3, classes will continue to be held on a rotational basis.

The Ministry of Education has also announced that micro-schools with no more than 300 students will be allowed to return to school as a group.

Primary and secondary schools in Johor, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan will start classes from January 9 (Sunday), while primary and secondary schools in other states will start classes from January 10 (Monday).
