The primary and secondary schools were originally scheduled to open on January 2 and 3. However, as severe flooding broke out in many states in the country, and the facilities of many schools were severely damaged, the Ministry of Education announced that the start of classes would be postponed by one week. Primary and secondary schools in Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah will start classes on January 9th (Sunday), while primary and secondary schools in other states will start classes on January 10th (Monday).
If the school’s facilities are damaged by floods, or if the school serves as a temporary evacuation center for the flood victims, then the Ministry of Education will announce the postponement of the opening of the schools in the area. Other unaffected schools will start classes on January 9 or 10 as scheduled.
The Ministry of Education will announce the mode of students returning to school shortly, that is, which grades need to return to school in turn, and which grades can return to school collectively. It is generally expected that as teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18 complete the vaccination, the Ministry of Education is very likely to send secondary schools back to school collectively, while primary schools continue to return to school in batches.
