You Can Pay Your Medical Expenses With The Second Account Of Your Provident Fund. Here’s How:

Malaysia’s Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) accounts are divided into 2 accounts. 70% of the contributions will be channeled into Account 1 and 30% in Account 2. The deposit in Account 1 can only be withdrawn after the age of 55, while the deposit in the Account 2 can be used for house purchase, education expenses and medical expenses.

When family members or members themselves suffer a serious medical condition and need to pay a big amount of medical fees or purchase any medical equipment, members can apply the emergency use of fund in Account 2. The Provident Fund Board will need to decide whether to approve the application depending on the status of member’s application. The Provident Fund Board has a list of critical illnesses for members’ reference, which only with those illnesses in the list can apply for withdrawal. 

 

Details of the use of EPF in Account 2 for medical expenses: 

Purpose

Members can withdraw the deposit in Account 2 to make payment of the medical expenses for themselves or families. 

 

Requirement

– Malaysian citizens 

– Non-Malaysian citizens (settled and became a Malaysian Provident Fund member before 1998)

– No more than 55 years old 

– Account 2 with deposit

 

Requirement for Withdrawal

– Family medical includes: spouse, children, adopted children, parents and siblings.

– Medical expenses recognized by the provident fund

– Certificate of madical expenses/equipment

– Members can share the relevant expenses with other members 

– Members can determine the amount of withdrawals

– If the employer has bear all the medical expenses or the medical expenses is not recognized by the board, withdrawal will not be approved. 

 

Amount of Withdrawals

– All deposits of Account 2 or the exact medical costs

– If the employer bear part of the medical expenses, members can only withdraw the remaining amount of medical expenses

 

Required Documents for Application

– KWSP 9D (AHL) form

– A copy of member’s identity card 

– A copy of bank statement 

– Pharmaceutical Certificate

– A copy of patient’s identity card

 

After gathered all the relevant documents, you may bring it to the nearest KWSP to process or post it via mail.
