Work speaks, avoiding excess politics, says Penang CM

27/11/2023

Chow Kon Yeow, the chairman of the Penang DAP, stated today that he has spent his 37 years in the party avoiding overt politics and concentrating instead on giving the party and its members the best services possible.

Chief Minister Chow suggested that his “track record” since joining the DAP in 1986 might have contributed to the party leadership’s confidence in him to head the Penang government for a second term in a row.

“I have been a party member for 37 years, and throughout that time, I have had numerous opportunities to serve the party and the people, whether as an assemblyman or a member of parliament.

I believe my strengths are to blame for this. I’m a man of few words, I’m unwavering in my commitment to the (party) cause, and I avoid overly politicized situations. Speaking today at the 2023 Penang DAP annual convention, he stated, “I am focused on delivering achievements.”

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook presided over the convention. In attendance were members of the state party leadership as well as Lim Guan Eng, the chairman of the national DAP.

Chow continued by stating that the 14th general election (GE14) manifesto pledges made by the ruling state party coalition had been fulfilled in 94% of cases, and that the current emphasis is on carrying out the remaining 15 % of the promises in order to maintain the success of the state government.

The speaker expressed the state government’s continued dedication to the Penang2030 mission and expressed hope that the newly formed team of state administrators, which was formed following the August state election, would contribute to its accomplishment.

To guarantee that the party stays relevant as the ruling party in Penang, “everyone, including party members and leaders, must shoulder their responsibilities,” he continued.

In contrast, Lim stated in his speech that DAP is a “young” party that will remain so in terms of concepts and ways of thinking, even among its more seasoned members.

In addition, he emphasized the significance of ongoing revitalization and the creation of a stronger succession plan, emphasizing that leaders—especially those in positions of authority—should not overlook the party when making decisions.

“I urge all DAP leaders and members to be disciplined and always abide by party directives, listen to the concerns of the people and ensure that civil servants implement outlined policies for the benefit of all,” he said, citing recent elections as evidence that voters support the party more than specific candidates. — Portugal
