A 21-year-old Utahn named Bela Chatwin had serious sun poisoning after dozing off at the beach without using sunscreen.
Her loved ones couldn’t recognize her because of the huge swelling on her face; they even said she looked like an “alien.”

Sun poisoning, a severe kind of sunburn brought on by UV light, was the medical diagnosis given to Bela. Due to the usage of skin treatments with steroid bases, her recovery took three weeks.
Bela found out she had photodermatitis, a lifetime allergy to the sun that had gone untreated before the sun poisoning episode, during her rehabilitation.
After considering her experience, Bela now vigorously promotes the usage of SPF and cautions others not to undervalue the need for sun protection. No matter the temperature or the weather, she stresses the need for prudence and makes a promise never to make the same mistake again.
The experience of Bela should serve as a warning to everyone to prioritise sun safety in order to avoid repeat incidents.
