WhatsApp officially launches “Companion Mode”! 4 devices can share 1 number!

27/04/2023

WhatsApp officially launched the long-awaited feature, the function of sharing the same account with multiple mobile phones, realizing the “Companion Mode”, allowing users to log in on multiple mobile phones simultaneously!

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of this feature on Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday night, Malaysia time, “Starting today, you can log in to the same WhatsApp account on up to four mobile phones.” And this feature will be rolled out to all users in the next few weeks.

WhatsApp also posted a question on Facebook saying that users can connect up to four devices and a mobile phone to their WhatsApp account in the same way as when connecting WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets and desktop computers. Each connected phone is independently connected to WhatsApp, ensuring users’ personal messages, media and calls are encrypted. Furthermore, when the user’s primary device is inactive for a long time, WhatsApp will automatically log out of the user’s account from all supporting devices. This way, users can switch phones at will without logging out of their accounts and continue chatting seamlessly from their last conversation.

WhatsApp is one of the most extensive messaging services in the world, with more than 2 billion users. However, due to the comprehensive end-to-end encryption support for chat and calls, it has been criticized by many users because of the lack of multi-device support. While other competitors, such as Telegram, offer multi-device message synchronization, they do not support end-to-end encryption.

During this month, users of the trial version of WhatsApp discovered the setting of “Companion Mode”. At that time, users only need to select “Link Device” on the upper right corner of the registration and login screen of other mobile phones, and then a QR Code for login will be displayed on the screen; open the “Link Device” function with the host and scan the QR Code to enable the new The registered mobile phone becomes the second machine of the same account, accesses the same chat history and sends messages.
