A high-performance model is anticipated to go on sale very soon, if the upgraded dual-motor Tesla Model 3 Long Range isn’t powerful enough at this point. Tesla has stated that the Model 3 Performance version will be “pretty special” and that it will launch in early 2024, according to Carsales in Australia. The performance-focused Model 3 was rumored to be dubbed the “Ludicrous” or “Plaid,” but it appears that the pre-upgraded model will continue to be referred to as the Performance.
The “Performance” version of the upgraded Model 3 is coming soon
Like the current Tesla Model Y, Tesla typically offers three different EV model variants. The mid-spec Long Range model has two motors and a larger battery than the base model, which has a single motor driving the back wheels and a smaller battery. The top-of-the-line “Performance” model has a slightly shorter range but offers even more performance with a higher power output and faster 0-100 km/h time.
The most recent Model 3 is currently available in Malaysia and other countries at a price of RM218,000 for the long-range AWD model and RM189,000 for the standard RWD model. With a remarkable range of up to 629 kilometers on a single charge, the long-range Model 3 is no slouch, taking just 4.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. Its twin motors generate 559 Nm of torque and 331kW (443hp).
It is not, however, as fast as the current Tesla Model Y Performance, which costs RM288,000 and can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Additionally, a higher top speed of 250 km/h is unlocked with the performance model.
What can we anticipate from the upcoming 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance?
A report from Carsales claims that the first Model 3 Performance, which debuted in 2017, “left a few things on the table” because the electric vehicle company was experiencing “production hell” as it attempted to increase output. Although it was suggested that the original Model 3 Performance had greater potential, Tesla had made securing large production volume its top priority.
Tesla hopes to fulfill this potential with the upgraded Model 3 Performance by centering the major engineering work around “driving enthusiasts.” The new aerodynamic bumpers and revised suspension of the upgraded Tesla Model 3 have already shown gains in ride quality and range.
You can also expect extra performance body kits including an extra spoiler and sportier-looking wheels. On the Tesla’s Performance models, there’s something called the Track Mode which optimises stability control, traction control, regenerative braking and cooling to maximise performance on closed circuit courses. We reckon that would be the same as well for the upcoming model.
Since the Tesla Model Y Performance is already priced at RM288,000, we are guessing that the upgraded Model 3 Performance could be priced between the RM250,000 to RM280,000 range in Malaysia. The closest rival price-to-performance ratio wise is probably the Smart #1 Brabus which is priced at RM249,000. It won’t be surprising if the upgraded Tesla Model 3 Performance offers the best performance for any vehicle under RM300,000.
