Kuala Lumpur will have a shadowless noon on March 28th!

According to an infographic issued by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MSTI), Kuala Lumpur will be experiencing “No Shadow Noon” on March 28th (Thursday). This is due to the fact that the sun is directly overhead, so there are no shadows under direct sunlight.

From March 20 to April 5 every year is the spring equinox of the 24 solar terms, during which the sun will be directly above the equator, that is, between 0° and 15° degrees of ecliptic longitude, and when the sun shines directly on the equator, there will be no shadow at noon in some areas.

Since the latitude and longitude of each region are different, the “shadowless noon” will occur at different times. Putrajaya will experience it on March 27th, while Kuala Lumpur will experience it on March 28th.

During the equinox, the world also experiences day and night as long as each other, which means 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.
