Communications Minister Fahmy noted that the unity government will try very hard to reduce the fiscal deficit to 4.3% this year.

In a Facebook post yesterday, he said our fiscal deficit had managed to drop from 5.6% in 2022 to 5% last year.

He said that despite the challenges of 2023, the country recorded a 3% growth in GDP in the fourth quarter of last year.

“In order to ensure that the country’s economy is on the right track, then it is important to prioritize the 3 foundations, which are focusing on investment, new jobs and price control.

“In terms of those 3 foundations, we are on the right track and that is unemployment is down, inflation is down and foreign direct investment is up.”

In the posting, Fahmy also shared a chart of our economic development achievements in the fourth quarter of 2023, where FDI amounted to RM17.1 billion.
