Where to go on a weekend break? Well, I’m going to look for a new cafe or beautiful restaurant online and then get dressed up and go with my girlfriend or boyfriend for a photo shoot to post on instagram! This is probably a popular pastime for many people these days, especially now dine-in is allowed.
People who like to take photos are most concerned with the design of the shop, the atmosphere and the effect of the photos, and they also choose good-looking seats.
Is the presentation of the food more important than the taste?
A luxuriously decorated cafe can attract a lot of people to come and spend money, so many shops spend their money on decoration to create a instagramable shop. In fact, this has indirectly created a bad trend in the restaurant industry as most people think that the food and service in these cafes are usually mediocre. But to be honest, making the food good is what attracts customers coming back and builds a regular clientele.
The few customers who come in specifically for the photos will cheekily walk around the cafe, changing seats, posing for photos and taking long shots like it’s nothing, treating the cafe like it’s their own photo studio. To be honest, this does affect other customers and from the owner’s point of view it is difficult to stop them from taking photos for fear of them being posted online and giving a bad review. Customers may think “I have the right to take pictures because I came here” or “I’m helping you promote your business for free” and see no problem at all in doing so.
No matter whether you are there for the food or for the beautiful decorations, it is advisable not to disturb other customers and to respect the shop owner. Some restaurants will limit meal times and arrange seating to try to accommodate each customer’s dining experience. Some people will feel that there are too many rules, but I think this is acceptable, don’t you?
