The Ministry of Transport will soon announce the “micro-vehicle regulations”, which may require a driver’s license for micro-vehicles that exceed 50 kilometers per hour.

According to a message from Transport Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the “micro-vehicle regulation” will clarify the definition of a micro-electric vehicle, as some electric bicycles are even faster than motorcycles. Imagine how dangerous it would be for an 11-year-old child to drive a motorized bicycle at over 70 kilometers per hour.

Wei pointed out that those electric scooters or mini-vehicles that go faster than 50 kilometers per hour may need to get a driver’s license.

Recently, e-scooters have started to blow up in China, and there are cases of e-scooters driving on the road in various cities in the country. According to the law, e-scooter can only be ridden on the roadside bike track or non-park, not on the road.

For driving mosquito bikes on the highway, Wee Ka Siong pointed out that mosquito bikes are originally illegal. The police also began to strengthen the ban on the road in the mosquito-type bicycle.
