GP Singh, a top police officer in the Indian state of Assam, reportedly made a comment on Twitter a few days ago, according to a “BBC” story.
All police officers’ body mass indices (BMIs) will be professionally recorded starting in mid-August 2023, according to Singh. Police officers with a BMI of more than 30 must lose weight within 3 months or they will be considered “voluntary retirees,” he added.
Singh did highlight, however, that personnel with health issues will be spared from the programme.
The BBC pointed out that the Indian police work irregular hours and do not receive enough rest, and that many police personnel have recently passed away from heart disease, diabetes, and other lifestyle-related illnesses. These facts have severely damaged the credibility of the Indian police. It became an alarm for the Indian police, which is why Singh started the “weight loss revolution” in the first place.
