63k requests for devices through the Perantisiswa Program.
When the deadline for appeals expired on December 31, last year, the government received 63,000 applications for devices under the PerantiSiswa Program. According to Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching, 25,000 appeals have been approved so far.
The rest are still being evaluated by their respective universities (IPT). They will check to see if the appellants are from B40 (low-income) families. The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) is the program’s governing body, through which we distribute the devices. We must wait for confirmation from the institutions whether the applications are approved or not.
For the state of Johor, a total of 29,461 applications were approved, with 23,435 units distributed to eligible students.
When asked if the ministry had received reports of the devices being sold, Teo stated that the last time such reports were received was in November. The last time KKD, then (known as) KKOM, received reports of the devices being sold was in November of last year, involving 13 cases. There have been no reported cases since then, and we hope there will be no more.
The PerantiSiswa Program is a government programme that aims to assist IPT students in the B40 group in their learning process.
