Kontena Coastal View is a cheerful hotel situated on Kuala Penyu’s peaceful waterfront, constructed out of shipping containers.
Called “Kontena Coastal View”, this unique beachfront hotel is quite literally made out of old shipping containers – well, mostly! There is a brick-and-mortar structure inside that the shipping containers are attached to.
It is certainly a novel way to give old shipping containers a new purpose, but there is more to a hotel than just aesthetics.
Kontena and its staff go above and beyond to make sure that guests have a pleasant stay, which is unusual for a non-premium establishment that just opened last year. Although it’s not a five-star hotel, you are sure to get first-rate service.
It’s also safe to say that you’ll be getting a good deal when you stay here because the rooms are reasonably priced, with the Standard Twin costing only RM130 and the Master Suite costing RM280.
The reception counter’s location on the first floor, however, may not exactly excite guests upon their arrival at the hotel. If your travels are light, simply thank your lucky stars. Do not worry if you have to haul around bulky luggage. You won’t have to lift a finger as the staff will come to your rescue almost instantly and wheel your bags to your room.
Entering an air-conditioned room is a welcome change after a long day in the sun. The Standard Twin room is simply furnished, but it is still reasonably comfortable.
A thoughtful touch that makes the bed extra special is the box of free local candies with a personalised “thank you” note for spending the night at Kontena.
The Standard Twin room has two single beds, as the name would imply. Additionally, FMT Lifestyle took a look at the King Seaview room, which has a beautiful view of the South China Sea. Better suited for a romantic getaway with a significant other, awakening to the sound and sight of soft waves lapping against the beach is an amazing experience.
Both rooms had sufficient amenities, including well-maintained air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
The hotel benefits from having shower heads that are portable and strong enough water pressure for relaxing baths.
Get something to eat downstairs when you are starving. Even the pickiest eater will be pleased with the comforting and completing food served here.
Proceed to the front beach. For the young and young at heart, there is a small playground here.
In the distance, you can also make out Pulau Tiga, an island that you can actually visit by boat from the jetty nearby, if you’d like.
Thus, Kontena Coastal View would provide a genuinely comfortable, reasonably priced, and unforgettable stay if you’re ever in the Kuala Penyu area and need somewhere to lay your head.
