The cause of the blackout has been found!

28/07/2022

Yesterday (27th) noon, many areas in Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Malacca, Johor and other states were hit by a sudden power outage, and even the cell phone networks of some telecommunications companies were affected. When everyone was at a loss, a video started to appear on the internet that was circulated by Malaysian netizens.

In the video, the filmmaker explains that one of the equipment at Pencawang Masuk Utama, located in the south of Yongpyong, Johor, was damaged and caused a fire, and the explosion was followed by blue fire.

Later, the National Energy Corporation (TNB) came forward to confirm that the cause of the blackout without warning in several areas of the West Malaysia Peninsula was indeed due to the damage of the Johor Yong Peng substation. It was reported that the outage involved 2.2 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, accounting for 10% of the total electricity demand across the peninsula. TNB has also issued a statement apologizing for the incident and, thanks to the efforts of the TNB technical team, the power supply to all affected areas was successfully restored at 3pm yesterday.
