The 3-day Wesak holiday is over, the next national holiday falls on June 6!

17/05/2022

The 3-day Wesak holiday weekend is over, so when does the next national public holiday fall?

Since Wesak falls on a Sunday, most of the country’s states will be able to enjoy a compensatory holiday on Monday. The lively 3-day long weekend holiday is over and the next national public holiday falls on June 6.

The Head of State’s Birthday in 2022 falls on Monday, June 6, which is a national public holiday and a statutory holiday for all states and industries in the country.

Under Section 60D of the Labour Act 1955, all wage earners are entitled to 11 paid public holidays per year, of which 5 are statutory public holidays, namely National Day, Head of State’s Birthday, Sultan’s or State’s Birthday or Federal Territory Day, Labour Day and Malaysia Day.

Head of State’s Day is a statutory holiday and if an employer requires an employee to work on a statutory holiday, then he or she must be paid double pay.

The Head of State’s Birthday falls on Monday, June 6, which, when added to the weekend and Sunday, creates a three-day long weekend holiday from Saturday, June 4, to Monday, June 6.

There are also several state specific holidays before June 6, namely the Glass City Raja’s Birthday on Tuesday, May 17, the Pahang Festival on Sunday, May 22, the Harvest Festival in Sabah and Labuan on Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31, and the Daya Festival in Sarawak on Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2.
