The 3-day long weekend holiday for the birthday of the head of state is over, do you know when the next public holiday falls?
After the Head of State’s birthday holiday, the next public holiday falls on July 10, which is the Hazikvah holiday, which is also a 3-day long weekend holiday.
This year, the Hazikvah holiday falls on Sunday, July 10, so you will have one day off on Monday, July 11. If you add the weekly vacation on Saturday, July 9, this will also make a 3-day long weekend holiday.
It is important to note that Terengganu and Kelantan have the day following Haji on Monday, July 11 as a holiday, so these two states are also entitled to a compensatory holiday on July 11.
There are two other states that are not entitled to a compensatory holiday on July 11 (Monday), namely, Johor and Kedah. Sunday is not part of the weekly vacation in Johor and Kedah.
Haji is a holiday for fellow Muslims. It falls in the last month of the Islamic calendar, the tenth day of the month of Hajj, and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide for four consecutive days to commemorate the “sacrifice” of Ismail. Malaysia, like most Islamic countries, has made Hajj a national holiday.
In Malaysia, the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha is known as “Hajj”. It is also known as Qur’an, which is a transliteration of “Korban”, meaning sacrifice, i.e. the slaughter of animals as a sacrifice to Allah.
The exact date of Hajj is determined by the date finally announced by the Department of Religion after observing the phases of the moon from the first day of the month of Hajj. Then television and radio stations will announce the official date of Hajj to the whole country.
