A 73-year-old grandmother in Algeria, South Africa, was rushed to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain, and scans showed that the child in her womb had survived for 35 years!

A foreign doctor previously uploaded a video on the short-video platform TikTok sharing that the grandmother was carrying a lithopedion in her fallopian tube.

He said the elderly woman was rushed to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain problems and after a scan and diagnosis, was shocked to find Lithopedion in her abdomen.

This is a very rare symptom, a common situation is ectopic pregnancy after the death of the embryo, due to the inability to be expelled from the body, and the size is too large to be swallowed by the cells and calcification, the phenomenon may be due to the lack of symptoms easy to be undetected for a long time.

In response to this matter, a doctor named Shan Han on social media X popularization, said, that so far, history has recorded a total of 331 cases of stone baby cases, the earliest case is really 1582, in France!

This rare phenomenon, called Lithopedion, is one of the phenomena of ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when the fetus is growing in the abdomen rather than in the uterus, he said.

“Ninety percent of ectopic pregnancies occur in the fallopian tubes, but some occur in the abdomen. The dead fetus is stored in the abdominal cavity and gradually calcifies around it eventually turning into a ‘stone’.

“This is the body’s response to protect the mother from infection. Lithopedion can be detected when a woman is undergoing an X-ray.”
