Scooters can be fined up to RM300 for driving on the road as the Ministry of Transport redefines micro-mobility

26/04/2022

According to the Minister of Transport, certain types of Mikromobiliti will not be allowed to be driven on the roads and offenders will be fined up to RM300.

The Ministry of Transport has redefined the term “micro-mobility” and divided these vehicles into three groups, namely moped (up to 50 km/h), pedal carts (including electric pedal carts) and mobility aids/light weight devices (PMA/PMD).

Motorised scooters, engine scooters and man-powered scooters belonging to the PMA/PMD category are not allowed to be driven on the road to avoid collisions with other large vehicles that could lead to tragedies.

As for bicycles, only bicycles that comply with the MS 2514 standard are allowed to be driven on the road.
