14/04/2024

Dear Credit Card Holders, Did you know that you can try to ask your bank to waive the payment of annual fee and RM25 service tax?

The government has re-implemented the Sales and Service Tax (SST) from 2018 and every credit card will be subjected to RM25 Service Tax (SST) every year. Generally on credit cards the service tax of RM25 is levied on the first month of card issuance.

According to the information provided by the netizens, the RM25 service tax on credit cards can be exempted and the banks will offer the exemption in the form of rebates to the card holders.

Credit card holders can request for RM25 service tax exemption from their banks before and after the RM25 service tax is levied on their credit cards. Cardholders can contact their credit card issuing bank by calling their credit card bank’s hotline or by email.

Generally, the bank will require the cardholder to make specific purchases, such as at least 3 purchases within a month or a minimum of RM500 within a month, before the RM25 service tax exemption will be offered to the cardholder. The bank will deduct RM25 service tax first and then refund RM25 service tax by way of rebate.

In fact, not only service tax can be exempted, credit card holders can also ask the bank to waive the annual fee (Annual Fee), the bank will also have a corresponding card requirements. Some credit cards do not require waiver of Annual Fee manually, but the Annual Fee will be waived automatically if the cardholder reaches a specified amount of credit card spending within a year.
