Prime Minister assures no more MCO!

23/01/2022

The number of new cases in the country is climbing and many people are wondering if the government will re-implement the Movement Control Orders (MCOs) in the coming months. The Prime Minister has assured that there will be no more MCOs at the national, state or county level and that people can return home to celebrate the festive season.

With the Chinese Lunar New Year in February and Eid al-Fitr in May, many people are worried that the escalating cases will make it impossible for them to return home for the holiday. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ishmael Sabri has assured that the EMCO will not be implemented again and will only be implemented in specific areas.

The government will continue to open up the economy to allow people to move around and do business as usual.

The Prime Minister said that the government will declare an endemic once the number of confirmed cases in the country is gradually reduced and contained to around 1,000.

As of 12 noon on January 23, there were 3,856 new confirmed cases and 13 new clusters of infection in the country. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the country is 2,832,945. The new cases in a single day for the past 5 days are 4116, 4046, 3764, 3229 and 3245 respectively.
