Possible causes of car fire and how to deal with a car after spontaneous combustion!

10/05/2022

A car caught fire in Genting and four people inside jumped out of the car in time to escape, fortunately causing no casualties.

There are many causes of car fires, and the probability of different causes occurring varies. In many cases, spontaneous combustion caused by oil leaks and ageing electrical wiring account for the majority of accidents.

In general, there are several general causes that can significantly increase the chances of a car spontaneous combustion: leaking petrol pipes, ageing electrical wiring, leaking gearboxes, modified cars, etc. Improper maintenance, unclean engines, smoking, lighter storage and other human factors can also lead to spontaneous combustion accidents.

The best way to avoid spontaneous combustion is to check and maintain your car regularly to prevent spontaneous combustion from occurring. Even if there are no major problems with your own vehicle in daily use, you should still do regular inspections. First, check the engine, oil lines and electrical system for leaks and deterioration.

Owners can also keep a fire extinguisher in the car. When a burning smell or smoke is detected in the car, stop the car immediately, put on the handbrake and turn off the power. Then quickly leave the burning car, remove the fire extinguisher and allow the fuel tank and burning parts to cool down to avoid an explosion. The exact location of the fire must be found at the first opportunity and extinguished with a fire extinguisher. If you find it late and the fire is very large, leave the scene as soon as possible and call the police.

If you spot a fire at an early stage but are not in a position to save yourself, learn to take mutual aid measures. For example, if a car fire suddenly breaks out on the street and you don’t have a fire extinguisher with you, don’t panic, stop and ask for help from passing cars, borrow someone else’s car extinguisher to put out the fire in time, or ask a car buddy to put out the fire together, this will greatly improve the efficiency of the fire and shorten the time it takes to put out the fire, thus reducing the economic loss caused by the fire.
