Police Investigation Finds: Most Internet Scams Originate from Victims Clicking on Unknown Connections and Installing Unknown Software!

13/02/2022

The country’s internet scams are proliferating, and people are urged not to click on unknown links on the internet and download unknown cell phone software.

According to the police, unscrupulous groups usually ask victims to click on links or install specific cell phone software, and then hack into the victim’s cell phone to obtain the one-time verification code (OTP/TAC) for bank transfers.

Once the syndicate has obtained the victim’s OTP/TAC, they can complete the transfer without the user’s knowledge, only to find out that the deposit has been stolen when the user checks his bank account. Usually the syndicate uses the stolen funds to top up the game so that the police cannot check the identity of the person.

The police pointed out that even if the syndicate is high-tech, it still needs the cooperation of the victim to complete the fraud. If the victim is not willing to click on the links provided by the group, or unwilling to install the software of unknown origin, the group is unable to steal the victim’s deposits.

Preliminary police investigation found that most of the victims used Android phones because Android phones are very convenient in installing third-party software, while Apple phones restrict users from installing software from third parties.

If you find that the software asks for some strange permissions when you install it, such as asking for permission to read your phone’s text messages, asking for permission to manage incoming calls, etc., then you should pay special attention and you can manually block the software from getting the relevant permissions.

The police also list several ways to prevent internet fraud, such as don’t click on links sent by strangers, don’t download software at will, and don’t enter your bank details and personal information on unfamiliar web pages.
