Prime Minister: this year’s Ramadan bazaar can operate as usual, the government will not implement a total blockade!

13/02/2022

The Prime Minister assured that there will not be a total blockade again, and the bazaar can be held in Ramadan!

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said in response to a reporter’s query that the government has not yet discussed and formulated a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Eid al-Fitr, but the government will not prevent the Ramadan bazaar from being held this year.

The epidemic in the country is increasing day by day and the Ministry of Health expects that the country will have more than 30,000 new cases per day in the next month. Fellow Malaysians are worried that the epidemic will affect this year’s Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr and are therefore asking the Prime Minister if he will allow the operation of Ramadan bazaars.

This year, Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on May 3 and 4, so Ramadan is expected to fall between April 3 and May 2, less than two months from now. The government will meet soon to discuss the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Eid al-Fitr and Ramadan.

Last year, the government announced the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, which resulted in many Malay compatriots not being able to return home to spend the holiday with their families, and they are worried that this year’s Eid al-Fitr will also encounter the same MCO as last year.
