Personal information suspected of being abused by third parties! Netizens:Uninstall MySejahtera!

28/03/2022

Since the beginning of the outbreak, the government has launched the MySejahtera mobile app to track the whereabouts of close contacts to prevent the outbreak from spreading. However, many people have taken to Twitter, using the hashtag “#StopUsingMySejahtera” to express their dissatisfaction with the government reselling a good mobile app to a private company for control, and even suspecting that users’ personal data is being misused by a third party, threatening to stop using and uninstalling it!

Recently, it was rumoured that the government had resold the MySejahtera mobile application to a private company, so many Malaysian netizens flocked to Twitter using the hashtag “# StopUsingMySejahtera” to express their dissatisfaction with the government for reselling a good mobile application to a private company to control.

The sale of MySejahtera to a private company has also raised serious concerns that the personal data and private health-related data of millions of Malaysians could be misused for illicit transactions, and angry netizens have even threatened to report MySejahtera to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store if the government does not take action to address the issue. MySejahtera was taken down.

According to a report in China Daily, the Cabinet approved on November 26, 2021, for the Ministry of Health to take over MySejahtera through a direct contract with MySJ Sdn Bhd, and the chairman of the Justice Party, Dato’ Seri Anwar, also issued a statement saying that the Ministry of Health officials, in front of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee, said that the current acquisition of MySejahtera’s cell phone through a direct contract would be a good idea. The statement that there is no connection between MySJ Sdn Bhd, which acquired MySejahtera through a direct contract, and Entomo (earlier known as KPISoft), which developed the application, needs to be thoroughly investigated again.

Anwar pointed out that in the direct award contract system, it will only benefit companies or individuals who have close connections with the government, even making people worry about their personal data management and the possible misuse of millions of people’s health information, among other issues.
