Passing an interview with a Google Level 3 Engineer may earn up to $800,000 a year!

ChatGPT, an AI chatbot launched by technology start-up OpenAI, has been making waves around the world for its ability to write emails, essays, and scripts, develop business proposals, create poems and stories, and even crack code and check program errors. According to CNN, ChatGPT is smart enough to pass the U.S. college business and law exams, although the scores are not particularly high. And it has sparked concern in the global academic community about whether this AI tool will become a cheating tool for students.

According to a CNBC report cited by PCMag, Google’s parent company Alphabet’s cloud business is urgently working on a project called “Red Alert” to combine ChatGPT with its own products. The purpose is to compare ChatGPT with its own product, the “Bard” chatbot, for testing. According to internal documents, senior management has been seeking feedback from employees and even warned that “in the short term, this test is more important than all other projects, so please do not attend any unrelated meetings.

In addition, Google also conducted interviews with ChatGPT to ask questions about the programming. According to Google’s internal documents, ChatGPT’s ability to write programs has reached the Google Level 3 Engineer interview, which is equivalent to an annual salary of US$183,000 (approximately RM792,700).

Although Google Level 3 Engineer is an entry-level engineer, mainly for fresh graduates and first-time programmers, it is not easy to obtain this qualification. In addition to having an in-depth knowledge of programming, applicants must also know how Google works. This also means that ChatGPT’s programming skills are at least college level.

Asked if he thought he could replace an engineer, ChatGPT responded, “I’m not likely to replace an engineer because I can’t fully replace the expertise and creativity of a human engineer, and writing programs is a complex field that requires a deep understanding of computer science principles and the ability to adapt to new technologies.”
