On June 15, Internet Explorer officially retired! Microsoft calls on IE users to switch to Edge!

05/04/2022

The life of Microsoft Internet Explorer, which debuted in 1995, is finally coming to an end. In these decades, its experience for users has been deteriorating, and finally everyone has jumped ship to use other browsers, including Microsoft itself, which has launched and pushed the new Edge browser, which apparently does not want the big brother anymore.

Recently, Microsoft has once again actively reminded users, especially those in the enterprise, to migrate to the Edge browser because IE will stop supporting it on June 15, 2022.

Many applications rely on Internet Explorer.

It is reported that Edge is a Chromium-based browser, but many traditional applications still rely on Internet Explorer, and many enterprise users are still using these programs, so the migration process is not too smooth.

But Microsoft also announced some fixes for IE mode inside Edge, hoping to provide some convenience for users after the migration.

These repair updates also include solving several problems that appear in IE mode, such as disabling the IE browser under the restored IE COM object, which in the past, as long as the IE standalone function is disabled, IE mode will be interrupted.

In addition, the cookies shared between IE mode and Edge are now bidirectional, so users can still share callback information when they set cookies in IE mode and switch back to the Edge browser.

It once occupied 95% of the kingdom.

It is reported that last year, Microsoft announced that its Internet Explorer 11 would be discontinued on June 15, 2022, and taken over by Microsoft Edge. IE used to be the leading browser in the early years, and was the standard for Windows from the 90s to the 00s, and the bundled usage rate reached 95% of the usage share in 2002-2003.

However, because of the diminishing resources invested by Microsoft, IE began to have more and more problems, and was complained about as being “slow and insecure”, and even IE 6 was selected as “the 8th worst technology product ever”.

Although it was criticized, it was bundled in Windows but could not be uninstalled, which made the user evaluation even worse.

But then the emergence of Edge was gradually welcomed by users, coupled with the home field advantage, and “semi-forced” users to use it to grab back part of the mountain, but IE to determine the imminent retirement. Did you also use IE as your main Internet tool? Are you using Edge or other browsers such as Chrome, Opera, or Firefox today? You are welcome to share your opinion in the comments.
