Next Monday is a public holiday!
Monday 6 June is the birthday of the Head of State, which is a national public holiday and a statutory public holiday. The Government has set the Agong’s Birthday on the first Monday of June each year by 2021.
Since the birthday of Agong falls on Monday, with the addition of weekly holidays on Saturdays and Sundays, this will form a long weekend holiday of 3 days. If you need to work on a Saturday, you can also enjoy 2 days of leave.
According to section 60D of the Labour Act 1955, all migrant workers are entitled to 11 paid public holidays per year, of which 5 days are statutory public holidays, namely National Day, Birthday of Agong, Birthday of The Sultan or State or Federal Territory Day, Labour Day and Malaysia Day.
Since the birthday of Agong is a statutory holiday, if the employer requires the employee to work on the day of June 6, the employer must provide the employee with a salary under the Public Holidays Act.
