When the new Seberang Jaya Market and Hawker Centre opens to the public in August of next year, market visitors in Seberang Jaya, Penang, will finally be able to enjoy a more pleasant shopping environment.
On a 5.05ha plot of land in Jalan Tenggiri, construction on the RM19.5mil building started in 2019.
The Penang Development Corporation is in charge of the project, which was proposed in 2018.
After completion, the owner, Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP), will receive it.
According to reports, when the nation was struck by the Covid-19 epidemic, there was a delay in building during the different stages of the movement control order.
According to Seberang Prai mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad, construction is already nearing its conclusion, and it should be finished by August 31 of next year.
The hawker centre of the new structure will have 90 booths, 51 dry stalls, and 112 wet stalls.
Additionally, 220 spaces will be used for the new location’s street mall area, management office, surau, handicapped-accessible restrooms, and trash depots.
“The safety features of the new market and hawker centre, where fencing and lighting will be installed around the complex compound, is another good feature,” Azhar said.
Other accessible features for the impaired, such tactile flooring, ramps, and disability parking spaces, will also be included.
