Malaysia’s new airline MYAirline has been granted an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) and is expected to commence operations in the fourth quarter of this year.
MYAirline, which is headed by a number of aviation veterans, has been in service since January 1, 2022, although it has not yet started carrying passengers commercially, and the license held by MYAirline is valid for 12 months, from January 1 to December 31, 2022.
MYAirline will offer both domestic and international flights, although the flight distance will be kept within four hours, as this is the best option for low-cost airline operations. MYAirline has not yet announced the routes it will serve.
MYAirline has taken delivery of at least 2 Airbus A320-214 aircraft. MYAirline currently employs over 300 people, including 45 pilots.
MYAirline will be a direct challenge to Capital A’s AirAsia. However, Capital A Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandas said he was not worried about the new airline. The chief executive officer of Malaysia Airlines Group, Ihsan Ismail, questioned whether there is room for a new airline in the local aviation industry.
