Previously, Meta threatened the European Commission that if the EU insisted on keeping European users’ Facebook and Instagram data on European servers and couldn’t transfer user data back to the United States, then Meta would withdraw Facebook and Instagram services from the EU!
Two top European Commission officials responded to Meta’s warning by saying that the Commission’s position remains constant in response to Meta’s threat. On the contrary, if Meta does not comply with EU legislation, it is the EU itself that will force Meta out of the EU!
The German Economy Minister said, “I used to be four years without Facebook, but life is still good! Meta sees the EU as a large market in which to make such threats. We, the EU member states, must stand united and refuse to be frightened by such threats. Meanwhile, the French Economy Minister also said that life would be better without Facebook! We, the European Commission, will never relent in ensuring the protection of EU member states’ citizens’ personal data!
For the time being, Meta has remained silent in response to the European Commission’s hard stance.
