There are 3.5 million vaccinated Sinovac people in Malaysia who have not yet received a booster

09/02/2022

According to authorities, a total of 53.3 percent of people over the age of 18 had received booster doses as of Feb 8.

It is reported that one of the reasons why some adults in Malaysia do not want to take the booster is that they do not want to mix the vaccine. In particular, those who had previously received the Sinovac vaccine did not want to mix the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines.

In response, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that the government will issue appointments for vaccination booster shots to those who have already been vaccinated but refuse to mix them. Details will be announced in the near future.

He also stated that as the Omicron variant spreads in Malaysia, those who have not received the booster vaccine will be exposed to the Omicron variant because Sinovac is no more effective than Pfizer.

He points out, given that there are 3.5 million people Sinovac has not yet been vaccinated to booster, therefore the ministry decided to let them choose to get Sinovac vaccine as the booster. Although the Ministry of Health encouraged them to mix Pfizer or AstraZeneca, they had no choice but to return to the Sinovac vaccine. He described it as better than no booster shots at all.
