Malaysia’s Ministry of Health announces the removal of 2 Abbott milk powders.

Due to bacterial contamination, the Ministry of Health announced the withdrawal of two infant formula products from Abbott in the United States, and parents are urged to pay attention.

Following the identification of Enterobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport in infant formula supplied by Abbott by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department of Health issued a statement today. Affected milk powder products include Alimentum (400g) and Human Milk Fortifier (0.9g x 50 sachets).

Both products have a shelf life of April 1, 2022 or later, start with numbers 22 to 37 on the barcode, and have container numbers K8, SH or Z2.

The Ministry of Health has also contacted Abbott Laboratories (M) Sdn Bhd, as well as confirmed that the company has voluntarily recalled the affected products in the local market, and has taken proactive steps to contact retailers, distributors and establishments purchasing related products to stop the Sell ​​the above products.

All merchants, including e-commerce, who still have this product in stock must stop selling it immediately. Parents and guardians should check the batch number of the infant formula concerned, stop using the product immediately, and observe the health of the baby.

Cronobacter is widespread in the environment and can survive dry conditions such as infant formula. Cronobacter infection can cause meningitis or sepsis in babies, but this is rare. Symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, or lethargy.
