Malaysia and Thailand will restart the research project on the ‘Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok high-speed rail line’.

28/02/2022

During a three-day working visit to Bangkok, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri announced that Malaysia and Thailand will restart the research project on the “Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok high-speed rail line”.

Regarding the plan of the Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok high-speed rail line, the two sides have initially discussed it as early as the previous Barisan Nasional administration, but no further action has been taken since then.

It is understood that Kuala Lumpur is about 1,000 kilometers away from Bangkok, and it is currently about 2 hours and 10 minutes by plane. If the high-speed train runs at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, it only takes about 3 hours to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok.

It is worth mentioning that once the high-speed rail line from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Bangkok, Thailand is really completed, and together with the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed rail, as well as the China-Thailand railway, it will eventually form a complete Pan-Asian high-speed rail!

The Trans-Asian high-speed railway, which consists of China to Laos, China to Thailand, Thailand to Malaysia (Malaysia-Thailand High Speed Rail), and Malaysia to Singapore (Malaysia-Singapore High Speed Rail), is expected to become a reality. All the way through Laos, Thailand, Malaysia to Singapore.

In any case, the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed rail project proposed earlier in our country has gone through twists and turns and has yet to take shape. Therefore, these so-called “Trans-Asian high-speed rail” still have many obstacles.
