New Covid-19 cases drops 14.2%.
The number of new Covid-19 cases in the first epidemiological week (ME 1/2023) from January 1 to 7 fell 14.2 percent to 3,231 cases, compared to 3,767 cases reported the previous week.
The number of local cases fell by 14%, from 3,735 to 3,213 cases. The number of imported cases decreased by 43.8 percent, from 32 to 18 cases.
The number of recoveries also decreased by 35.6 percent (from 5,869 to 3,781 cases recorded in the previous week). In ME 1/2023, the number of deaths has also decreased by 4.5%. (from 22 to 21 cases).
There were 5,029,908 new cases of Covid-19 reported from ME 4/2020 to Jan 7, this year, with a total of 4,981,975 recoveries and 36,874 deaths reported during the same period. The total number of clusters was 7,167, with nine still active.
Dr. Noor Hisham stated that admissions to hospitals and Low-Risk Covid-19 Treatment Centres for every 100,000 people had decreased by 2% overall.
Admissions to public hospitals for categories one (asymptomatic) and two (with symptoms) decreased by 15.4 percent, while admissions for categories three (with lung infection), four (requiring oxygen assistance), and five (on ventilator) decreased by 7.7 percent.
The percentage of bed occupancy, including non-critical care and intensive care unit (ICU) beds, has also decreased, as have positive Covid-19 cases monitored by the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) nationwide.
