Japanese research has found that coffee can reduce the risk of gout!

11/04/2022

Gout is a common and complex type of arthritis. When there is too much uric acid in our body, uric acid will accumulate in the joints, causing inflammation and pain, which is gout.

Based on the fact that the caffeine contained in coffee will be converted into purines, resulting in an increase in uric acid, in theory, gout patients should not drink coffee.

Surprisingly, however, there have been a number of studies abroad that have proven that coffee is beneficial for the prevention of gout. For example, a large-scale study in Japan recently found that long-term coffee consumption can help alleviate the onset of gout.

According to the foreign media “Nihon Keizai Shimbun”, a joint team from Japan’s Defense Medical University and Osaka University found in a genome-wide association analysis study that maintaining the habit of drinking coffee will help reduce the risk of gout.

The research team conducted an association study on the coffee drinking habits of more than 150,000 people and the risk of gout and found that long-term coffee consumption can help alleviate the onset of gout.

The study looked at more than 150,000 subjects on three values, including weekly coffee consumption, urea index, and risk of gout, and ranked the weekly coffee consumption as eight grades from 0 to 7 times.

It was found that for each additional day of coffee consumed for a week, the risk of developing gout was reduced by about 25%. As for how many times a day, how much coffee is not taken into account.

Studies have shown that coffee, as a natural alkaline drink, is not only conducive to maintaining the acid-base balance in the body but also plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of gout.
