A Taiping woman loses over RM500,000k to a ‘doctor’ in a love scam.
After meeting a ‘doctor’ on social media last year, a female factory storekeeper lost RM565,700 in a love scam.
Last year, the 68-year-old victim met the individual who pretended to be a doctor. According to Taiping district police commander ACP Osman Mamat, the victim was duped after becoming acquainted with a Facebook user going by the name Ding Nai Wei, who claimed to be a doctor operating in Iraq.
According to Osman, the suspect pleaded with the victim to send a sum of money to the United Nations so that he could leave Iraq, promising to give the victim RM5 million when he arrived in Malaysia.
From October 4, 2021, until May 21, this year, the culprit had entrapped the victim, prompting her to conduct 69 ATM transactions at the Maybank Taiping branch.
Throughout their connection, the victim had never met the ‘doctor’ and only chatted with him via WhatsApp at +1(786)6526776 and +1(984)3683962.
When the victim realised she had been fooled, she filed a police report at the district police headquarters here, according to Osman, who added that the matter was being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
