Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be celebrated about 10 days earlier every year and will clash with the Chinese New Year in five years’ time.
Last year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri fell on April 22, while this year’s Eid is expected to fall on April 10, and next year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to fall on March 31st. In this way, Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls about 10 days earlier every year.
Since there are only about 29 days in a month in the Islamic calendar and only about 354 days in a year, the date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri varies from year to year. If Eid al-Fitr continues to be brought forward by about 10 days every year, then it will clash with the Chinese Lunar New Year in 2029, 2030 and 2031, which is also known as Kongxi Raya.
It is worth noting that Malaysia has experienced Kongxi Raya, which is the clash of Chinese Lunar New Year and Eid al-Fitr, in 1964, 1965, 1966, 1996, 1997 and 1998. On average, it occurs every 32 to 33 years.
