Prime Minister announced at a special press conference at 1.30pm on March 16 that government will allow people to withdraw money from their provident funds.
Prime Minister noted that many families have yet to recover financially from the epidemic and that the government has been forced to reintroduce EPF withdrawals to allow those in need to do so. He urged that only those in genuine need should apply for withdrawals. The purpose of the EPF is to provide for people’s future retirement.
The Prime Minister said on air that the government had previously approved the i-Lestari, i-Sinar and i-Citra provident fund withdrawal schemes. The amount involved in these 3 withdrawal schemes is RM101 billion and there are 7.34 million members participating.
