In Dolomites,Italy there is a dormitory with breathtaking view , where only 12 people are allowed to stay at a time: a refuge at an altitude of 2667 metres on the edge of a cliff in the Marmarolle Mountains (2932 metres). It’s just a hut of 27 square metres, but those who have been there say they’ll never find a better view in Italy!

The name of the shelter is Bivouac Fanton and the accommodation has been built to suit the terrain. There is nothing unique about the exterior, just a square silver container. What is noteworthy is the location and the colours used in the shelter, which are very carefully chosen. The positioning of the shelter at an angle along the cliff edge and the painting of the facade in a colour similar to that of the cliff and the surrounding land are details that act as a protective colour, allowing the entire shelter building to blend in with its surroundings.

The Bivouac Fanton is located right next to the Forcella Marmarole pass, mainly so that climbers can have a place to rest. The most unusual thing about it is that it is free and open 24 hours a day, even without a reservation, as long as there is a place available. As wonderful as it may sound, not everyone can experience such a great con! That’s because it’s treacherous along the way and is only recommended for hikers who are familiar with the hiking trails.
