Fraudulent practises are pervasive! Sarawak Police: Don’t install unknown APK to avoid falling into fraudulent traps!

17/02/2022

Sarawak police are now warning the public not to be fooled by the latest tactics of fraudulent crime syndicates that use APK files on Android devices to commit fraudulent acts.

As many people know, through APK files, it is possible to install applications on devices based on the Android operating system.

According to the police, the scam group advertises the goods through social media and contacts the victims through WhatsApp in order to download the APK files for Android.

In addition to paying via credit card or online banking, the next victim will need to register for a free account. This APK file is designed to steal user information, including bank or credit card information.

Sarawak Police warn against being easily tricked by advertisements on social media, in addition to not easily trusting APK attachments sent directly by people you don’t know.

Therefore, we would like to remind all users to ensure that they only install the app from the official app store and always be careful when entering bank details on any online forms.
